Maggie Adams, Songwriter
Time goes fast
Days turn to years
Decades pass
But I still hear
Her words of wisdom
In my ears
She said seek and you will find
You’ve got to be cruel to be kind
I’ll give you a piece of my mind
Life is sweet when love is blind
Clichéd they may be
But they bring her back to me
Always hold the key
To your own destiny
Still waters run deep
Still waters run deep
Instrumental
Time goes fast
Days turn to years
Decades pass
But I still hear
Her words of wisdom
In my ears
She said look before you leap
You’ve got to think before you speak
Turn the other cheek
And pray to God your soul to keep
Clichéd they may be
But they bring her back to me
Always hold the key
To your own destiny
Clichéd they may be
But they bring her back to me
Always hold the key
To your own destiny
Still waters run deep
Still waters run deep
Still waters run deep
They run deep

STORY BEHIND THE SONG:
When I was a little girl I remember my Great Granny Dunlop often using clever phrases - I thought she had made them up! I had no idea what proverbs/idioms/cliches were at that time. When I hear those phrases now I think of her. She was the guiding light of our family. She ensured we said our prayers every night - they went on forever! We were very fortunate to have her in our lives as she moulded us all into decent human beings.
